WHO WE ARE

Neighbourhood bar & eatery. Canadian-inspired cuisine. Gluten-free menu. Garden patio. Drinking lounge. Family & dog friendly.

BambuchiSan is the place to bring friends and family together for a shared dining experience of creative and affordable Canadian-inspired cuisine. If you pop into the neighbourhood bar and eatery in the heart of Hataitai for dinner Tuesday - Saturday you can take a table in the cosy dining room, lounge in the window on a velvet couch, perch on the gorgeous outdoor garden patio, or sit at the copper-top bar, and enjoy friendly, welcoming service, fantastic drinks, and mouthwatering food. Fun, community-focused events like ladies nights, gin parties, and colabs, are held here regularly. As well as the secluded garden patio in the back, there is a private dining room for parties and special occasions. Bring the whole clan! BambuchiSan is family and dog friendly inside and out! So step into this delightful suburban oasis for a casual and wonderful night out.

BambuchiSan is named after Smuchi Bambuchi (below) - Lindsay & Emerson’s faithful husky x lab who came over from Canada back in 2012.

Sadly Smuchi left us at the start of 2020, but his legacy lives on in BambuchiSan

LINDSAY PHILLIPS - CANADIAN EXPAT - OWNER

Moving to NZ from Whistler, Canada, in 2009, Lindsay was based mostly in Auckland when she first arrived. She helped open the Library Bar and Miss Clawdy’s, and worked in a number of large restaurants up there before building enough capital to open a place of her very own in Wellington. Tossing up between a location on Tory street, and a small space in the suburbs, the draw of the Hataitai community proved to be strong, and so Coolsville Trading Post was born.

Lindsay has a wealth of experience in basically every aspect of the hospitality sector; her array of skills have been built up over her lifetime career in the industry. Two years after opening Coolsville, an opportunity arose to open a small restaurant right across the road. Bambuchi was named after Lindsay & Emerson’s Husky/Lab Smuchi Bambuchi - an absolute hataitai icon. Emerson transformed the tiny concrete space into a cosy neighbourhood eatery & bar. Lindsay, bidding farewell to those 5am cafe starts, brought her flair, passion, and energy to the Hataitai dining scene.
